A Better King

    A Better King

    Esther 1:1-21

    1. Profile of a King

    Vain (3-4), show-off (7-8), Drunkard (10-11), Petulant (12), People-pleaser (19-21)

Ahasuerus lived by the flesh with too much wine and sex.  He needed adulation and therefore sought to buy loyalty.  He was likely a psychotic narcissist who considered public humiliation as the greatest of offences.

We must expect more of our leaders.  Prov 31:4-5; Ecc 10:17

Ahasuerus surrounded himself with self-serving sycophants (like himself) who condemned Vashti to please the king and help themselves.

Application:  Like Daniel we see the good, bad, and the ugly and remain faithful and prayerful.

    1. We have a better King!!!

Isa 32:1-8  noble; Jeremiah 23:5-6  just and righteous;  Zech 9:9  Humble Savior; Psalm 2

We look forward to a better banquet!

Isa 55:1-3  salvation; John 7:37-38 Holy Spirit; Isa 25:6-9; Rev 19:7-9

Conclusion:  It is not enough to simply give assent to the truth of God and Jesus, but to put such faith in the Gospel it becomes a conviction that transforms your life.  A conviction so strong you step down from the throne of your life and let King Jesus rule and lead.  Have you submitted to the Lord and Savior Jesus?  Repented of your sinfulness and asked Jesus to come into your life?
