Peacemaking (Redux)

Peacemaking (Redux)

April 19, 2020

    Numbers 6:23-27

Aaron was to bless as we are now 1 Peter 2:5

The Lord Bless (Eulogia=A good word.  When God speaks a word He creates) and

Keep=keep watch or guard over.  (optative, wishful)  conditional

Jacob’s dream (Gen 28)  Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.

We can help create value and peace with our words

Context of chapter 6 is vow-keeping, both the marriage and Nazarite

illus:  In my previous ministries we loved to dedicate babies. In a dedication the congregation was also vowing to provide prayer and assistance to the family

The Lord cause His face to shine  (To become a light for you)

    Ps 119:105. Matt 5:14-16. 2 cor 3:18

Ps 80 uses a parable of a grape vine depicting Israel. God’s face to shine upon us teaches our life and prosperity come from God, like the sunshine upon the vine.

Lift His countenance =Go before you ps 5:8. Prob 3:5-6

    And give you peace

Now let it bounce off you to others. Like 8:39

Can we preach and example peace in such a time as this?

In 216 Rome faced Hannibal the general of the Carthaginian armies in the second Punic war. Rome won the first and would win the third resolving the conflict. But Carthage destroyed Rome’s largest ever assembled army at the battle of Cannae. Rome set their 8 legion in a gauntlet formation designed to act as a battering ram. Anticipating this Hannibal set his 5 legions in a crescent formation with the center bulging out. As the Roman battering ram advanced so the bulge retreated and the crescent encircled the Roman legions. 70000 Roman soldiers died that day.

If you, like me, are beginning to believe that a harmful political agenda is trying to use Covid-19 scare to gain power and pillage our freedoms. Then know this, God is on his throne and we are his children. And pray psalm 141:10 with me, “Let the wicked fall into their own nets”,
