A Time of Renewal by Rebecca Stewart

A Time of Renewal

For our safety and the wellbeing of others, we’ve been quarantined to our homes. We are not to be out and about unless it’s necessary.

As a world we’ve been led into the desert. We may think this is a bad thing, but spiritually this can be a blessing. The eternal implication of this time may be life altering. Maybe one day we can look back at this time of confinement and describe it as “the best of times”.

How you may ask?

Deuteronomy 8:2-3 says,

“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

We see first, that He has led us. We may go kicking and screaming or we my submit and humble ourselves to what the Lord has allowed at this time for our current circumstances.  Coronavirus did not catch the Lord by surprise. He allowed it for a reason, and He loves to take ashes and make something beautiful out of it.

If we will humbly allow Him to lead us in this wilderness, then the test with our heart may be a time of healing and freedom. May we honestly seek the Lord, so He may reveal to us where we’re obeying and where we are walking in disobedience.

Finally when the quarantine is lifted, may we see that we have been well fed physically and spiritually by our Heavenly Father during this time. May we be closer to the heart of our Savior when we come out of the wilderness then when we entered it.
