What is a Soul Worth?

What is a Soul Worth?

July 30, 2021

    Mark 8:36; Luke 12:16-21

A soul is worth more than any wealth and any comfort.

Do not equate wealth with soul-satisfaction. The rich man in Jesus’ parable assessed his great wealth and concluded he was at peace with himself, the world, and God! He was a fool!

I have a friend who just bought a large boat (or small yacht). He is thinking about a trip that takes him through all of the major waterways of the continent. The trip takes a full year. My friend is also hurting from a great conflict. by most standards he has wealth, but no peace. The trip will not bring soul-satisfaction because he is a Christian, and therefore, is commissioned to love and reach people for Jesus. Escaping on a year-long cruise will not heal the hurt. God loves people more than anything and He wants us to share that passion. And God’s number one priority is reaching souls!

Recently, while in New Jersey, the engine in my Hyundai overheated and seized. The truth is that the fault of the blown engine lay squarely upon my friend, a mechanic, working on the cooling system that day. The following day he came to me very apologetic and willing to do whatever was necessary to make it right. I forgave the oversight and told him not to worry about it, not even a little bit. You see, my friend has been backing away from his faith because of an ugly church conflict he endured a while back. His soul needs healing! He needed to see the compassion of Christ in a brother in Christ. What is his soul worth? Certainly more than a tired, old SUV.

A soul is worth more than being right! 1 For 6:7; 10:24

A soul is worth the life of the Son of God! Isa 53:6

A soul is worth our every effort: Intercession, Intentionality, Invitation.
