keep on…..Matt 7:7-12; Luke 6:31; Luke 11:9-13
Give good gifts
Give the Holy Spirit
1 John 5:14-15
Should we always pray for the earthly benefit of another?
Mt 7:12 follows prayer passage
Luke 6:31 follows love your enemy passage
Like Luke:
The enemy passage of Matt 5:43-48 ends by the command to be perfect as God is perfect.
Both the love passage and the prayer passage of Luke and Matthew are woven with the golden rule and the admonition to imitate God.
These passages are to be interpreted as a set.
Luke is easy to understand, Matthew a little more difficult but the conclusion is our prayer, like our love, is to imitate God. This point is often missed because God doesn’t pray.
The primary point of our prayer life is the needs of others. We are to be diligent praying for others (as diligent as for ourselves)
How diligent? Luke 18:1-8
What is our first priority?
Luke says the Holy Spirit. For salvation or for filling (by converse, not to quench)
For leading. Gal 5
For Scripture memory John 17
Rom 8:26-28
Whether enemy or family, in some cases both) we must desire the best for people
Conc: I have a new list of people I pray for weekly from the school. Let me tell you about the old list.
